SafeFood© and Skateboarding

October 16th, 2012

What the heck do these two things have in common? Well, as I walked across campus the other day, it seemed there was increased traffic by skateboarders. As I watched the agile athleticism of these students and their free spiritedness, I couldn’t help but appreciate their risk taking approach to life. Maybe it’s an age thing but beyond the obvious differences of wrinkles, widening bodies, etc., etc., etc., does increasing age bring a decrease in a risk taking mind set? I think so. Understanding that every decision has a consequence is part of getting older and hopefully wiser. But can there be a happy medium? I kinda doubt many college students think about foodborne illness risks, and their actions to mitigate the risks.  Thankfully most have immune systems that can fight off infection from high bacterial counts on the pizza eaten for breakfast that was left on counter overnight. For those of us that don’t, thankfully we have the benefit of experience.
