Taking Words of Wisdom Myself…

September 16, 2013

A couple of months ago, one of my Money Tip$ blogging colleagues posted about of getting your Social Security Benefits online. I hadn’t looked at it in while, so I gave a shot at it and it was relatively easy. It was also fast. They will ask some identifying questions to make sure you are the right person –a similar process when your access your credit history via the phone.

If you establish a new account, remember to write down the information so you will have easy access the next time you go to look at your benefits. Maybe even file it with your current benefit report.

You may want to look at an estimate for Social Security Benefits when you retire. My previous job did not pay into Social Security so my benefits are limited at this time. Here is the site if you want to check out your benefits too – http://ssa.gov/

  1. I have gone online and looked at my Social Security benefits several times. Not only is it helpful to consider all the factors and variables that are involved, but it also reinforces that fact that I WILL receive some kind of benefit. I know most people will disagree with me and claim that it won’t even be around in a few years. But I don’t think so. Although SS has already admitted that they won’t have enough funds to payout the full amount, I do believe we will receive some fraction of a benefit over nothing at all.
