I-29 Moo University Launches New Dairy Podcast

Dairy producers in the I-29 corridor and across Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota have a new way of receiving information, thanks to a new podcast launched by the I-29 Moo University dairy consortium. Extension dairy specialists from each state help to develop the topics for the bi-weekly podcast.

“The show’s focus is unique because it aims to discuss current issues faced by dairy producers along the corridor ranging from economics and animal health, to forage, labor and farm programs,” say’s Kim Clark, Nebraska Extension Dairy Educator, and one of three regular hosts for the program.

“Dealing with a Changing Climate in Agriculture” webinar offered Feb. 20

A free webinar entitled, “Dealing with the Changing Climate in Agriculture: Issues in 2020 and Beyond” will be held Thursday, Feb. 20 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.

The program will discuss issues leading into the 2020 growing season and put that information into a larger context of what is happening with Midwest weather and climate long-term.

I-29 Moo University Dairy Beef Short Course to Focus on Carcasses and Animal Health

The I-29 Moo University Dairy Beef Short Course is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 as part of the pre-educational events for the Central Plains Dairy Expo.  It will be held in the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Sioux Falls, SD in rooms 8, 9, & 10.  The focus of this year’s program is dairy beef carcasses at the farm, processor and consumer end, along with targeting health considerations for maximum performance. Two Dairy Field Days Spotlight Forage Management and Crossbreeding

The I-29 Moo University is hosting two dairy field days in November. Each field day will start at 12:30 PM CST and wrap up around 3:30 PM. Light refreshments and SDSU ice cream will be served. Dairy producers and others involved in production agriculture are reminded that registration for the Financial Impairment on the Farm Webinar and the Planning for Profitability program closes Friday, July 26. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dairy Specialist Fred M. Hall says that both programs are being hosted at no charge to participants. Producers and personnel from agribusinesses are welcome to register for one or both of these educational programs.

Dairy Tour Focuses On Key Animal Care Protocols

Summer I-29 Moo University Tour set for August 3

The I-29 Moo University will be highlighting best management practices on Boadwine Farms and Crosswind Jerseys during the “Treat Me Right” Implementing Best Management Practices Summer Tour. During the tour there will be demonstrations of proper euthanasia techniques and discussions of farm biosecurity practices. Low-stress cow handling, newborn calf care and handling non-ambulatory animals will also be discussed to ensure animal health and welfare along with employee safety.
