Iowa Milk Production Up Again

Milk production in Iowa during December 2020 totaled 466 million pounds, up 4% from the previous December according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during December, at 220,000 head, was 1,000 more than last month and 5,000 more than last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,120 pounds, up 40 pounds from last December.

Iowa Dairy Cow Numbers Fall By 2,000

Milk production in Iowa during May 2020 totaled 451 million pounds, down 2% from the previous May according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during May, at 217,000 head, was down 2,000 from both last month and last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,080 pounds, down 20 pounds from last May.

Iowa Milk Production Up 2 Percent In April

Milk production in Iowa during April 2020 totaled 449 million pounds, up 2% from the previous April according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during April, at 219,000 head, was the same as both last month and last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,050 pounds, up 30 pounds from last April.

Iowa Milk Production Down 1 Percent in October

Milk production in Iowa during October 2019 totaled 442 million pounds, down 1 percent from the previous October according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during October, at 217,000 head, was the same as last month but down 3,000 from last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,035 pounds, up 10 pounds from last October.

Dairy Directions Series Dec. 10-11 in Sac City and Pocahontas

The Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Dairy Team will host its annual Dairy Directions Series Dec. 10 in Sac City and Dec. 11 in Pocahontas.

The series will focus on replacement heifers, risk management, cooling dairy cows and updates on the dairy market outlook and ISU dairy herd.

USDA Forecast 2020 Milks Holds At $18.85/cwt

Milk production forecasts for 2019 are raised on higher cow numbers and stronger growth in
milk per cow. For 2020, expected continued gains in milk per cow supported an increase in
the milk production forecast in this weeks WASDE report.

Milk production in Iowa during August 2019 totaled 435 million pounds, down 1 percent from the previous August according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during August, at 216,000 head, was the same as last month but down 4,000 from last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,015 pounds, up 20 pounds from last August.
