NW Iowa Corn Silage Yields Average 23.5 Tons Per Acre

The Northwest District in Iowa led all districts in 2017 with 2.10 million tons of corn silage produced, according to estimates released by the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. This accounted for 30 percent of the State total production. The Northeast District produced 1.83 million tons of silage, representing 26 percent of the State total.

Iowa Corn Silage Production Down; Hay Up

The USDA NASS Upper Midwest Regional Office January crop production report shows Iowa corn for silage production is estimated at 6.93 million tons, down 12 percent from 2016. The silage yield estimate of 21.0 tons per acre is down 3.0 tons per acre from 2016. Producers harvested 330,000 acres of corn for silage unchanged from 2016.
