Week Two in Region 6

Hello from your Region Six interns! Here are the highlights from our action-packed week!

Master Gardener Floral Design Workshop

Gabrielle and Alex helped assist in conducting a floral design class! The beautiful cut flowers came from the local shop, Botanical Bee, in downtown Onowa. All the participants made their own floral arrangement while learning how to do so from our Master Gardener over zoom!

The Breakfast Club

Nathan and Alex headed over to the Iowa State Research Farm near Onowa, bright and early Thursday morning, to help with The Breakfast Club! This club consists of students who are preparing for the Monona County Fair! All of these students do not have experience working with livestock, and this club gives them the opportunity to learn more about showing livestock, poultry production, and agricultural processes!

Teaching Garden

Nathan, Gabrielle, Alex, and our new Horticulture Coordinator, Madeline Woodman, spent Thursday afternoon weeding, mulching, and replanting tomatoes in the Woodbury Teaching Garden!

Family Fishing Night

Nathan and Alex headed over to Onowa again on Friday night to help in family fishing night! All the children that came had a wide range of knowledge of fishing; some had never done it and some were professionals! This was a great opportunity for the children to make new friends, learn more about fishing, and of course…catch fish!

We all had a great week this week, and we look forward to more this summer! Keep an eye out for our blog each week to hear about it!
